VIOLENCE IN KARNATAKA

RECENTLY WE HEARD ABOUT SOME VIOLENCE IN THE STATE OF KARNATAKA BY RELIGIOUS FANATIC & FUNDAMENTALIST ON THE ARTICLE PUBLISHED BY A LOCAL NEWSPAPER WHICH CLAIMS THAT IT IS A TRANSLATED VERSION OF TASLEEMA NASREEN'S ARTICLE. IT IS SHAME FOR US THAT IN A DEMOCRATIC & SECULAR CONSTITIUN HOLDING COUNTRY THIS TYPE OF VIOLENCE COMES INTO THE SCENE & ONLY HANDFUL OF INTELLECTUAL USE TO CONDEMN IT WHOSE VOICE IS NOT HEARD IN THE SOCIETY. THIS NEEDS AN INTEROSPECTION OF OURSELF BECAUSE IF WE WANT TO DEVELOP OUR SOCIETY & COUNTRY IN A PROPER WAY & MAINTAIN OURSELF AS A SECULAR & DEMOCRATIC SOCIETY THEN PEOPLE INVOLVED IN THIS INCIDENT SHOULD BE DEALT WITH PROPER ACTIONS AS PER THE RULE OF LAW SAYS. ON THE OTHER HAND MEDIA EITHER IT IS PRINT OR ELECTRONIC SHOULD ALSO FOLLOW THE CODE OF CONDUCT BECAUSE TASLEEMA NASREEN HAS RAISED FINGERS THAT HER WRITINGS HAS BEEN MISUSED TO CREATE PUBLIC DISTURBANCES AND SHE HAD DENIED THAT SHE HAD NOT WRITTEN ANY ARTICLE FOR THAT NEWSPAPER . MEDIA SHOULD ALSO FOLLOW CODE OF CONDUCT SO THAT PEOPLE WHO NEED SOME GROUND TO RAISE AN ISSUE AND GO FOR AN IRRATIONAL PROTEST CANNOT USE MEDIA AS A HANDY TOOL FOR THE MISDEED THEY DO AFTER READING ARTICLES. RATHER THAN MEDIA SHOULD FOCUS ON CREATING AWARENESS AMONG THE PUBLIC ON THE CONTROVERSIAL ISSUES PREVAILING IN THE SOCIETY BY THROWING LIGHT ON THE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF THE ISSUE CONCERNED. AS THE FOURTH PILLAR OF THE INDAIN POLITICAL SYSTEM MEDIA CAN HELP A LOT IN STRENGTHENING THE DEMOCRACTIC & SECULAR VALUES ENSHRINED IN THE INDIAN CONSTITUTION.

  1. Yes I agree with the fact that media plays a vital role in raising an awareness amongst the people. But gradually a dissatisfaction has arisen for media as many people feel that even the media is also into business they are not writing for the mere fulfillment of their duty being into journalism despite they write for the increase in the sales volume of their name. So media should be using the power of words rather more positively to win the implicit trust of the public in future. If the media people stop being into business and come together to walk hand in hand and help each other in communicating the right thing to even the weakest section of the society a lot many problems could be solved. There are many sensitive issues still to be raised in the society rather making fuss fuss over petty matters.

  2. "A pen is mightier than a sword as a sword may only take life while a pen can change the WORLD."

In India there are more than 50,000 registered newspapers, 376 television channels out of it 200 channels are news channels, around 45 million active internet users & new media including mobile telephony.
And we have no active Govt. or private body which assures ACCOUNTABILITY of media in society, as the print media has a statutory Press Council, Broadcast media has put a regulatory mechanism in place but this is still at an early stage & Internet is largely unregulated but has not been free from state censorship. here I would like to highlight that I’m not supporting ANY kind of interference in “Freedom of media” ; I only want a mechanism which only check the Accountability of media role & its impact on society, As we knew ACCOUNTABILITY is one of the most important principles of successful democracy; like other three pillars of democracy , Media (fourth pillar) also have its duties toward Democracy & Society & defiantly Truth.

Last but not the least, law enforcement is more important than law construction in all aspects; Its duty of Govt. as well as Society to STRICKLY check ALL KIND of Extremisms, Violence, Injustice & human right violations; to prevent any discomfort to “Healthy Human Society”.
